You picked the best classes, taxied him to countless activities, and prayed nervously while he sweated through tests and papers.
Finally, the last chapter. Time to apply to college.
This is the easy part, right?
Well…that all depends.
If your child
knows where she wants to go,
is sure to get accepted,
and has plenty of money,
…then kudos to you! Senior year will be a piece of cake.
But for most people, admissions season is TOUGH. Six to eight colleges, multiple requirements per school, and all the associated scholarship applications… the essay count alone can easily rise to 20 or more.
On top of the workload, the anxiety: so much is riding on documents, deadlines, and decisions.
It’s not just hard on seniors; parents are swamped with college visits, financial forms, and transcripts, all while navigating a delicate tightrope with semi-adult kids: do we nag him about the to-do list or back off? What if he misses a deadline and loses thousands of aid dollars?
I have two messages for you:
1. You can do this.
2. You can make it easier.
Let us share what we've learned helping our four kids and many others apply for college.
Before you click open that first application form, learn the keys needed to maximize your applications:

Above all, remember that application season is a golden opportunity to grow in our trust in God:
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials [or applications or due dates or grumpy teens or temptations to worry that you will end up living under a bridge after the last tuition payment]… for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” – James 1:2-4 ESV
